Abstract

Medicinal plants have been widely used as a preventive and curative effort for various diseases. One of the plants that can be used as a medicinal ingredient is cherry leaves (Muntingia calabura L.). Several studies have shown the properties of cherry leaves as anti-inflammatory. The lotion preparation was chosen because it is intended for even, quick, and immediate dry use. This study aims to obtain the optimum formula for the lotion fraction of n-hexane ethanol extract of cherry leaves with a composition of cetyl alcohol and sodium lauryl sulfate. The ethanol extract of cherry leaves was obtained by maceration which was then partitioned using n-hexane to obtain the n-hexane fraction of the ethanol extract of cherry leaves. The lotion is made in four formulas based on factorial design methods. The lotions produced were tested for their physical properties including dispersion, adhesion, and viscosity. The data obtained from testing physical properties were analyzed using Design Expert 7.0.0 Trial. The test data for the physical properties of the optimum formula lotion were statistically analyzed using the One-Sample t-Test with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that the optimum formula for n-hexane fraction of ethanol extract of cherry leaves was obtained in the composition of 3% cetyl alcohol and 0.5% sodium lauryl sulfate. The response to the physical properties of the optimum formula from the results of the predicted values and the experimental values showed no significant difference.
