Abstract

Burns often occur on the skin. Burn cases that often occur are second degree burns. The action that can be done on burns is to provide local therapy with the aim of getting the possible cure. Moringa leaves contain compounds that can help the wound healing process, including flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. Flavonoid compounds have antibacterial properties that work through inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Saponins help the healing process because they have an antioxidant effect, tannins are an astringent that can precipitate blood protein, namely thrombin. This study aims to determine the effect of feeding the ethanol extract fraction of Moringa leaves (Moringa Oleifera Lam.) on the treatment process of burns in wistar rats. This study used 5 treatment groups, namely positive control (ointment mebo), negative control (ointment base), ointment of ethyl acetate fraction with a concentration of 6%, 8%, and 10%. Second degree burns were made by attaching an iron plate with a diameter of 2 cm by heating the plate in blue fire for 3 minutes then placing it on the mouse's back for 5 seconds without any pressure. Observations were made for 15 consecutive days by measuring the diameter of the wound using a caliper. Ethyl acetate fraction ointment ethanol extract of Moringa leaves in 3 formula concentrations, namely 6%, 8% and 10%. The physical properties of the tested preparations include the organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, dispersibility, adhesion, and viscosity that meet the requirements for the physical properties of a good ointment preparation. Statistical analysis was performed using the one way ANOVA test with the normality test p> 0.200 (p> 0.05), the homogeneity test p> 0.212 (p> 0.05) then continued with OneWay ANOVA showing a significant value p> 0.875 (p> 0 , 05) which means that there is no significant difference in each treatment group. However, when viewed on a graph and subjective observations, it shows a difference in the reduction in burns.
