Abstract

Oral abscesses are caused by microorganisms, one of which is the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Temu Kunci rhizome contains cardamonin compounds and is a flavonoid derivative that has antimicrobial properties. The mucoadhesive patch is a route of drug administration through the buccal mucous membrane in the oral cavity. This study aims to determine the best formula for the mucoadhesive patch of ethanol extract of temu Kunci rhizome which has good physical properties and antibacterial activity against S. aureus. Temu Kunci rhizome extraction using maceration method with 96% ethanol and 5 formulas for mucoadhesive patch preparations were made. The physical properties test for mucoadhesive patches included weight uniformity, folding endurance, pH. The antibacterial activity test of patch preparations was carried out by looking at the size of the inhibition zone. The data obtained were processed by statistical Analysis of Variance. The results of the research, the best formula for mucoadhesive patches was formula 3 with the best physical properties test. The results of the antibacterial activity test for mucoadhesive patch preparations of the ethanol extract of temu Kunci rhizome (Boesenbergia pandurata) against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria showed inhibitory power by increasing the extract to 30mg and 45mg.
