Abstract

Belimbing wuluh leaf extract (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) contains flavonoids as antioxidants that can delay or inhibit oxidation reactions by free radicals. Belimbing wuluh leaf extract needs to be made in dosage forms, one of which is a transdermal patch for easy use, non-stickiness and easy to apply to the skin. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal ratio of ethyl cellulose and polyvinylpyrrolidone matrix in the transdermal patch formula and to determine the potential for antioxidant activity of transdermal patch preparations of belimbing wuluh leaf extract (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) as a free radical scavenger expressed by IC50 values. Optimization of transdermal patch preparations of belimbing wuluh leaf extract with a concentration of 30 ppm and a combination of EC and PVP matrices determined by Design Expert 12 software using Simplex Lattice Design. The responses used were weight, thickness, pH and crease resistance tests. Verify the optimum formula with the One Sample T-Test on SPSS. Operating time in the 6th minute and a maximum wavelength of 734,4 nm using a uv-vis spectrophotometer. Antioxidant activity test on the optimal formula using the ABTS method. The results of the optimization of transdermal patch preparations for belimbing wuluh leaf extract showed that the EC and PVP ratio was 0,145 grams : 0,005 grams with a desirability value of 0,970. The weight test value is 0,52 ± 0,01, the thickness test is 0,16 ± 0,06, the folding power test is 222,00 ± 1,73 and the pH test is 5,30 ± 1,15. The test results of the weight test value between the optimal formula and the prediction of the Simplex Lattice Design with One Sample T-test showed a significant difference, while the pH test, thickness test and folding power test showed no significant difference which was valid. The results of antioxidant testing on transdermal patches had antioxidant activity values with an average IC50 value of 45,14 ± 0,01 which was classified as very strong.
