Abstract

The use of excess doses of paracetamol can cause the formation of excess free radicals resulting in oxidative stress. This can be damage to liver cells which is characterized by increased levels of SGPT in blood serum. Guajava leaf extract and cinnamon extract has proven to be antioxidant, for that reason if both are combined it has be good antioxidant or not. This study aims to determine whether the combination of guava leaf extract and cinnamon extract can reduce the SGPT levels of male rats induced by paracetamol and to find out what the optimal dosage can reduce the SGPT levels of male rats induced by paracetamol. This experimental research was conducted for 9 days using 30 male rats which were divided into 6 groups. The Normal group was given aquadest, the Negative group was given CMC Na 0.5%, the Positive group was given Silymarin 100 mg / kg BB, the Dose groups I -III each was given a combination of guajava extract leaf and cinnamon extract with a dose of 50 mg/ kg BB: 240 mg / kg BB, 100 mg / kg BB: 160 mg / kg BB, 150 mg / kg BB: 80 mg / kg BB. On the 7th day all animals test were induced by Paracetamol at a dose of 2.5 g /kg BB, except for the Normal group. Then on the 9th day the SGPT level was examined with the enzymatic kinetic. The combination of guajava leaf extract and cinnamon extract can reduce the SGPT levels compared the positif group and the dose groups I, II, III 0,309 0,386 0,773 (P<0,05), this shows that there are not significant differences. Conclusion: The conclusion of the results of this study is that the three combination doses I, II, III have the same ability to reduce levels of SGPT.
