Abstract

Kenikir leaf (Cosmos caudatus L.) is used by the community as an appetite enhancer and has medicinal properties, but kenikir leaf extract has low solubility and less optimal oral biovailibility. This study aims to overcome the solubility of the kenikir leaf ethyl acetate fraction by making a SNEDDS (Self-Nanoemulsifying Drug Delivery System) preparation. Kenikir leaf extraction with maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent, then carried out using fractionation of ethyl acetate kenikir leaves using three different solvents (Water, N-hekasana and Ethyl Acetate) and formulation between surfactant composition, co-surfactant and carrier oil for produce homogeneous SNEDDS preparation formula. Homogeneous preparations were then observed for the value of % transmittance to be able to choose the best preparations with % transmittance > 90%, after which several tests were carried out on the formula including emulsification time requirements of less than 1 minute, stability test (Cycling Test) and drug loading test. The best SNEDDS preparation results have a ratio of surfactants (Tween 80), Co-surfactants (PEG 400) and oil phase (VCO) = (3: 1: 1). The preparation has a transmittance value of 94,42% ± 0,40; emulsification time test (AIF) 6,90 seconds ±0,09 ; (AGF) 16,70 seconds ±0,11, the results of the stability test of the unstable SNEDDS preparation and the drug loading test obtained 100 mg in formula 1 with Tween 80, PEG 400 and VCO Oil (3: 1: 1) ethyl acetate fraction of leaves kenikir the best.
