Abstract

Coffee is a dark black drinked with a distinctive aroma and basically had a bitter taste. Coffee consumption had a positive effect on the body, it can reduce uric acid levels because coffee contains chlorogenic acid compounds that can inhibit the work of xanthine oxidase. The purpose of the research was to determine the description of uric acid levels in students who drinked coffee. This research is descriptive observational with a cross sectional approach. The sample is 32 respondents who drinked coffee used simple random sampling technique, this examination is measured used a photometer MC-Clima 15, for the results was presented descriptively in tabular form. Categorical data is presented in the form of numbers and percentages. Continuous data was presented in the form of mean, median, standard deviation, minimum value, maximum value. In this research, the results of normal uric acid levels were 30 respondents (94%) and less than normal were 2 respondents (6%). At the age of 21 years, 2 respondents (6.3%) had uric acid levels less than normal. In women there was 2 respondents (6.3%) have uric acid levels less than normal. At the frequency of drinking coffee 1-2 times / day there were 2 respondents (6.3%) have uric acid levels less than normal. In the volume of drinking coffee 1-2 cups there were 2 respondents (90.6%) have uric acid levels less than normal. In the duration of drinking coffee >4 years, there were 2 respondents (6.3%) who had uric acid levels less than normal. In respondents who consumed drugs, there were no respondents who had uric acid levels less than normal. In respondents who consumed foods high in purines, there were 2 respondents (6.3%) who had uric acid levels less than normal.
