Abstract

Hand washing is a simple activity that aims to remove dirt and minimize the number of germs on the hands and palms. Hand washing can use water and an additive, such as an antiseptic or something else. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of several brands of hand sanitizer gel against the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. The type of research used in this scientific paper is descriptive research. This research was conducted at the Bacteriology Laboratory of the National College of Health Sciences and the time of this research was carried out on March 22-March 27. The samples used in this study were several brands of hand sanitizer gel that were sold at a supermarket in Surakarta. Bacterial inhibition test using the KirbyBauer method. The sampling technique used is total sampling. The results obtained from 5 different brands of hand sanitizer gel by using repetition 4 times in a row and using a negative control. The hand sanitizer gel that is able to form a radical zone is the brand Hand sanitizer gel A with a composition of 65% Alcohol, B Alcohol 70%, C Alcohol 75%, D Alcohol 60% and E Alcohol 65% with an average of 7.23 mm, 7 mm respectively. 7.38mm, 7.43mm, 7.03mm and 7.31mm. Conclusion 5 different brands of Hand Sanitizer Gel were able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and were able to produce an average inhibition zone of 7.06 mm.
