Abstract

The leaves of star fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) contain flavonoids that have the potential as sunscreen. This study aims to determine the total flavonoid level, the effectiveness of sunscreen based on the SPF value and to determine the relationship between the total flavonoid level with the SPF value of the extract and the fraction of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi L.). Starfruit leaves were extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol as solvent and fractionated with n-hexane and ethyl acetate as solvent. Determination of total flavonoid content with aluminum chloride reagent and determination of SPF values of 100 ppm, 200 ppm and 300 ppm. Analysis of the relationship between total flavonoid levels with the SPF value of the extract and the leaf fraction of star fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) using the Pearson Correlation Test. The results of the identification of flavonoid compounds extract and fraction of starfruit leaves contain flavonoid compounds. The results of the total flavonoid content of the extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction of starfruit leaves were 1.552±0.039%QE, 1.221±0.006 %QE, 1.752±0.029%QE and 0.715±0.023 %QE. The results of the effectiveness of sunscreen based on the SPF value of the extract, the n-hexane and ethyl acetate fractions were ultra protection, 100 ppm water fraction was maximum protection while 200 ppm and 300 ppm were ultra. Based on the Pearson Correlation Test, the total flavonoid content with the SPF value of the extract and the fraction of starfruit leaves showed a perfect relationship.
