Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to abnormalities in insulin secretion and/or action. In patients with uncontrolled diabetes, which is characterized by high HbA1c levels, it can cause various complications, both acute and chronic complications. Chronic complications consist of macrovascular and microvascular complications. Hyperglycemia also affects the body's inflammatory response and immunity to infection which results in a decrease in the function of the body's immune cells, so that infection can manifest more severely in DM patients. One of the markers of chronic complications in DM is the erythrocyte sedimentation rate which one of the benefits of the examination is to know the acute inflammatory reactions both local and systemic as well as inflammation associated with chronic diseases, one of which is DM. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the erythrocyte sedimentation rate and HbA1c levels in Prolanis patients with type-2 DM. This research method is an observational analytic study with a cross sectional approach. Data were taken from Prolanis patients with type 2 DM who checked HbA1c and continued with the examination of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate at the Yogyakarta Prodia clinical laboratory for the period February to March 2022 who met the inclusion criteria. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation test to find out whether there was a significant relationship between the erythrocyte sedimentation rate and HbA1c levels. Results: there is a significant relationship between HbA1c levels and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate in Prolanis patients with type 2 DM with a p-value of 0.004 (less than 0.05) and there is a moderate relationship between HbA1c levels and erythrocyte sedimentation rate values in Prolanis patients with type DM. -2 with a correlation coefficient of 0.379.
