Abstract
Worm infection or helminthiasis is an infection disease which is caused by parasitic worms.Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) are the kinds of parasitic worms responsible for most infections on humans’ bodies. Parasitic worms that fall under the categorization of STH and which are commonly found in humans’ infected bodies include roundworm (AscarisLumbricoides), whipworm (TrichurisTrichiura), and hookworm (NecatorAmericanus and AncylostomaDuodenale). In the case of infections by Ascarislumbricoides and Trichuristrichiura, infections will occur when eggs are ingested, while for hookworm parasites, infections can occur if eggs penetrate a person’s skin. This study aimed to analyze the correlation betweenthe uses of personal protective gears and the number of worm infection cases on garbage collectors working in North Rawabadak’s waste disposal, North Jakarta during January 2022 to March 2022. In data analyzing, this research used the method of descriptive data analysis. Descriptive Analysis(AnalisisUnivariat) aimed to explain or describe each research variable characteristics. The method used for this research design was observational analytic method which was prepared to explain a condition or situation with the uses of Quota Sampling technique to collect fecal specimens coming from 20 garbage collectors equipped with personal protective gears and 20 garbage collectors unequipped with personal protective gears. The fecal specimens were examined for the presence of helminthic eggs with the uses of direct microscopy technique. The results of the examination showed that, out of the total of 40 specimens, two specimens coming from garbage collectors were worm infected, that means, p-value was 0,147. This shows that there is no significance correlation between the dependent variables, that is, the uses of personal protective gears and worm infection on garbage collectors working in North Rawabadak’s waste disposal in Koja, North Jakarta.
