Abstract
Turmeric is an herbal plant that is used as a medicine for bile disorders, coughs, liver disorders, wounds, rheumatism, and sinusitis. Turmeric contains curcuminoids which are antifungal which can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans by damaging cell membranes and denaturing proteins. Candidiasis is an infection caused by Candida albicans that lives in the oral cavity, digestive tract, and vagina in a normal flora balance and is pathogenic when immune defenses decrease. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of effectiveness of the inhibition of turmeric juice (Curcuma longa Linn) on the growth of Candida albicans. This research is experimental in vitro using post-test only control group design experiment using agar plate diffusion method (Kirby Bauer) which is a direct sensitivity test method to Candida albicans and divided into 7 concentration groups, 5 treatment groups, 2 positive and negative groups. The results of macroscopic observations there are inhibition zones at concentrations of 100%, namely 2.25 mm, 80%, namely 1.90 mm, 60%, namely 1.25 mm, 40%, namely 1.05 mm and 20%, namely 0 .45mm. Normality test and homogeneity test obtained sig p>0.05 and Anova test sig p<0.05. Based on observations, it can be seen that the juice of turmeric (Curcuma longa Linn) which is quite effective in inhibiting Candida albicans is the concentrations of 100%, 80%, 60%, and 40%.
