Abstract
Diabetes is a chronic disease caused by the pancreas not producing enough insulin or the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Vascular injuries on diabetes as result of hyperglycemia has been linked to oxidative stress that causes depletion of glutathione intracellular. Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) plays an important role in the antioxidant system of the body by always maintaining intracellular glutathion concentrations. Glutathion is an antioxidant that is important for cell defense. This study has aimed to determine whether there were differences in Serum GGT levels in controlled and uncontrolled DM-2 patients, this study was cross sectional conducted at Prodia Pluit from March – Mei 2022 in 64 patients with type 2 DM grouped according to HbA1c < 7% controlled and HbA1C >7 % uncontrolled. GGT levels examined using enzymatic calorimetry and HbA1c with HPLC. Data analysis was carried out using the Mann-Whitney U comparison test using SPSS program. The result of the study analysis showed most of respondents were females with HbA1C levels < 7 (43,75%) and HbA1C > 7% (56,35%). The conclusion of this study is that there is no level difference of serum GGT in patients with controlled and uncontrolled type 2 diabetes ( P=0,887 ).
