Abstract

Cholesterol is a lipid that flows with the blood vessels with a yellowish color like wax that is formed by the liver and is needed by the body. Hypercholesterolemia is a condition where cholesterol levels in the body exceed normal limits. Factors causing hypercholesterolemia include heredity, consumption of high-fat foods, lack of exercise and smoking habits. One of the nutritional support for reducing excess cholesterol levels in the body is soybeans. Soybeans are processed into powdered soy milk and soybeans contain isoflavone antioxidants that can lower cholesterol levels. Isoflavones have estrogenic properties that can reduce levels of Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), Triglycerides, and increase High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and ultimately decrease total cholesterol levels in the blood. Experimental research method using Pre-Experimental Design research was conducted in February 2022 with The subjects of the Elderly members at the Integrated Service Post were 25 respondents with the criteria that they did not have a history of degenerative diseases, did not take anticholesterol drugs, were not consuming alcohol and were willing to be respondents and participated in a series of studies. Data were collected with cholesterol values examined by the POCT method. Hypothesis testing is done by using Paired t-Test. This study found that there were differences in the results of cholesterol levels before and after giving powdered soy milk with the results of the treatment group having an average of 224.48 mg/dl and the post-treatment group having an average of 217.48 mg/dl. Treatment with a dose of 170 ml for 14 days showed a decrease in the results of the Paired T-Test test, p value < 0.004 so that there was a significant difference in cholesterol levels before and after consumption of powdered soy milk. on cholesterol levels after administration of powdered soy milk to the Elderly in the Integrated Service Post.
