Abstract

Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) is one of the natural ingredients that is used as an essential oil. Clove oil contains eugenol which can be used as a solvent in alcohol and is used to purify tissue preparations. The advantages of using clove oil are the fast purification process, the relatively cheap price, and the scent is like aromatherapy. Xylol is a colorless, flammable, volatile, sweet-smelling liquid, but it is irritant and dissolves fat, causing dry, cracked, blemished, or dermatitis skin. The purpose of this study was to see the difference in the results on macroscopic and microscopic images between the treatment of clove oil and xylol clearing processes in liver tissue preparations. This research is experimental, divided into 2 groups. Each group consisted of 8 white rat tissue preparations. Liver organs were observed macroscopically and microscopically. The results of macroscopic observations showed that the tissue preparations had good quality of transparency, texture, and ease of tissue cutting with a score of 1. Microscopic observations showed the quality of clarity, color, and tissue integrity were good with a score of 1. The T test obtained a sig value > 0.05 which indicates that the results of macroscopic and microscopic observations there are no significant differences between the xylol group and the clove oil group.
