Abstract

White and bright skin is everyone's dream. Many women use various kinds of cosmetic preparations, one of which is the use of facial cream cosmetics. With increasing demand, facial cream products in Central Jakarta also increase, both those that have been registered with BPOM, and those that have not been registered with BPOM. Face creams containing mercury are toxic and in long-term use are very dangerous for health. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a difference in blood mercury levels in registered and unregistered women using face cream at BPOM. Sample analysis was carried out quantitatively using the ICP-MS method. The sample from this study consisted of 16 samples of female face cream users, namely eight samples from facial cream users registered at BPOM and eight samples from facial cream users who were not registered at BPOM. The results of the examination of mercury levels in the blood of women using face creams registered with BPOM, the lowest result was 3.9 g/L, and the highest result was 17.1 g/L with an average of 9.2 g/L, from eight samples. examined, there were three samples whose mercury levels in their blood were above the reference value. For the results of examination of mercury levels in the blood on face cream users who are not registered with BPOM, the lowest result was 3.9 g/L and the highest result was 21.4 g/L with an average of 9.1 g/L, from eight samples taken When examined, there were four samples whose mercury levels in their blood were above the reference value. Based on the results of statistical tests obtained Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.982 where if the p-value > 0.05 it can be concluded that Ho is accepted, which means that there is no difference in blood mercury levels between registered and unregistered women using face creams at BPOM circulating in Central Jakarta.
