Abstract
Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a collection of symptoms or infections caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Human immunodeficiency virus attacks the immune system, causing a decrease in the patient's immune system. In AIDS patients, the decrease in the ability of the immune system is closely related to the incidence of opportunistic infections. The severity and death of AIDS sufferers is caused by various factors. Some of them are late diagnosis and inappropriate management of opportunistic infections in AIDS patients. The real clinical picture of AIDS sufferers is the presence of opportunistic infections and neoplasia that can cause death. Opportunistic infections are infections that occur due to a decrease in the immune system. These infections can occur through new infections by other microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses) or through reactivation of latent infections, which are normally controlled by the immune system. laboratory descriptive research. The variable of this study was the saliva of HIV patients with a total sample of 40 people with HIV. The results of this study showed patients with HIV at the VCT clinic of the Arifin Ahmad Regional General Hospital Pekanbaru found the presence of spores / hyphae as many as 10 people (25%) and 30 people ( 75%) no spores/hyphae were found.
