Abstract
Fast food contains lots of cholesterol. Intake of foods with high cholesterol content result in increased blood cholesterol levels. High cholesterol levels lead to atherosclerosis and become the cause of stroke and heart disease. Plants that contain flavonoids berkhasiat lower cholesterol is the fruit of red okra ( Abelmoschus esulentus L. Moench) which is suspected to have cholesterollowering activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-cholesterol activity of fruit extracts of red okra (Abelmoschus esulentus L. Moench) in vitro and to determine at what concentration of red okra extract reached EC50 (Effective Concentration). The extraction method used was maceration using 96% ethanol solvent. Cholesterol concentration analysis was performed using LiebermanBurchard method. Red okra extract each made series concentrations of 25 ppm, 50 ppm, 75 ppm, 100 ppm, and 125 ppm. The percentage of cholesterol reduction after addition of red okra extract were 10,1345%, 24,1754%, 37,5785%, 45,9940%, and 59,8704%, respectively. EC50 score obtained from anticolesterol activity test on red okra extract is 101,3342 ppm.
