Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2 is a hyperglycemic disease due to decreased insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells or impaired insulin function. Increasing blood glucose can increase Reactive oxygen species (ROS) resulting in oxidative stress. Oxidative stress causes hemolysis of red blood cells, so that in patients with type 2 DM hemoglobin levels decrease. This study aims to determine the relationship of hemoglobin levels and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 DM. This study uses literature study from existing research in the last 10 years. Data analysis was done descriptively by searching for similarity from each journal that discussed the relationship of hemoglobin levels and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Based on the analysis of the reference journals used in this literature study related to the similarities of sample population and examination method found that there was no relationship between hemoglobin levels and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. This results was inferred from 2 reference journals stated there was no relationship between hemoglobin levels and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. The p-values in the 2 reference journals were 0.070 and 0.989 (≥0.05). Conclusions from this study there is no relationship between hemoglobin levels and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 DM.
