Abstract
Heavy metal pollution can have a negative impact on the health of the environment and organism, one of which is cadmium metal. If cadmium exposed to the human body continuously can cause hepar cirrhosis. Secondary metabolites that are capable of binding metals are alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, saponins and tannins. A plant that is rich in secondary metabolites is the Moringa oleifera plant. Moringa leaves are often used as a food ingredient that is popular with the community. In this study a cadmium metal binding test was carried out with ethanol 90% extract of Moringa oleifera leaves, by mixing 20 ppm cadmium metal solution with each concentration of Moringa leaves extract sample with a variation 50 ppm, 75 ppm, 100 ppm, 125 ppm and 150 ppm for 60 minutes. The remaining cadmium measured by the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. This study aims to determine the potential of Moringa leaves in reducing levels of cadmium metal and determine the EC50 value of Moringa leaf extract in reducing 50% of cadmium metal content. The results obtained, ethanol extract of 90% Moringa leaves containing alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, saponins and tannins has the potential to reduce cadmium metal with EC50 values at concentrations of 50 ppm.
