Abstract

Secang wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) contains brazilin including isoflavonoids which act as antimicrobials (against skin bacteria) as well as antioxidants. Nano technology increases surface area, better stability, reduces skin irritation, protects against degradation, and good drug delivery. Nano emulsion preparations can help permeability of the drug on the membrane surface. Nanoemulgel preparations can provide stability and good drug release compared to mixing drugs directly in a gel base. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different concentrations of gelling agents CMC-Na and concentration of CMC-Na gelling agent can produce the best nanoemulgel preparations. Nanoemulsion is made from isopropyl myristate oil phase, tween 80 surfactant and polyethylenglycol co-surfactant. Nanoemulsion formulations were tested by measurement of% transmittance by UV-V spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 650nm. Nanoemulgel is made from nano emulsions on the basis of CMC-Na at concentrations of 3%, 4%, and 5%. The test results percent transmittance of 71.86%. The results of physical quality and stability tests of the secang nanoemulgel wood preparations showed an influence on the physical properties of adhesion, dispersion and viscosity, the greater the concentration of CMC-Na gelling agent in nanoemulgel preparations, the greater the adhesion and viscosity, while the spread of power is smaller. Concentration of CMC-Na gelling agent that produces the best secang nanoemulgel (Caesalpinia sappan L.) is in a formula with a stable 5% CMC-Na concentration by freeze-thaw testing .
