Abstract
Papaya seeds are one of the traditional medicines that are useful as an antioxidant. The flavonoids which are contained in papaya seeds can reduce free radicals. It can also induce the inflammatory mediators that have potential to make hepatocyte cell is damaged. In the formulation, the researcher chooses patch preparations to enhance bioavailability, provide long-term drug effect and release the drug at a constant dose. This study aims to determine how much the concentration of PVA base is needed in producing the papaya seeds extract patches with good physical stability. Papaya seeds extract was obtained through extraction by maceration method with ethanol 95% solvent. In this test, the variations of PVA concentrations in patches are 6%, 7%, and 8%. Physical stability tests were carried out on days 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28. Those are organoleptic tests (shape, color, odor and taste), weight uniformity test, homogeneity test, pH test, thickness test, drying shrinkage test and folding endurance test. The acceptability test was conducted on 10 respondents. The parameters of the test are whether the patch color is equal and there are no color patches on the patch’s surface, whether the patch is flexible, whether the patch’s surface is smooth and whether the patch’s surface is not oily. From three formulas, the best physical results is F1 with a PVA concentration of 6% with the results: weight uniformity of 0,47 ± 0,01 g; thickness 0,02 ± 0; pH 6 ± 0; shrinkage drying 0%. The acceptability test on F1 with 6% PVA concentration is more acceptable for people in society. It shows on the results of the weight uniformity test and the pH test on the three PVA concentrations which do not affect between formulas, while the thickness test affects between formulas.
