Abstract
Black Cumin (Nigella Sativa L.) contains thymoquinone and thymohydroquinone which function as immunostimulants. Nanotechnology can improve drug quality by increasing drug bioavailability, increasing physical stability, and increasing absorption by reducing pasticle size and extending the surface. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of black cumin (Nigella Sativa L.) nanoemulsion with various concentrations of surfactant Tween 80 and cosurfactant PEG 400. The variation in the concentration of Tween 80 and PEG 400 in the black cumin extract nanoemulsion preparation which had good physical properties was formula 4 with a ratio of 4.5 and 1.5. The nanoemulsion was made from the oil phases of virgin coconut oil, surfactant tween 80 and polyethylenglycol cosurfactant. The nanoemulsion formulations were tested for organoleptic, pH, viscosity,% transmittance, and droplet size. The result of nanoemulsion production has the organoleptic form in bright brown color and has a distinctive odor. The results of the physical quality and stability test of the black cumin extract nanoemulsion preparation showed a difference in pH values, namely the higher the PEG 400 concentration in the nanoemulsion formula, the lower the pH of the preparation. In the droplet size test with the selection of the best formula with a ratio of 4,5 : 1,5 of Tween 80 and PEG 400, the results obtained meet the droplet size criteria range, namely the range of 20-500 nm with a polydispersity index of 1,2.
