Abstract

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a bacteria that attacks the respiratory system. Respiratory tract infections are divided into two, namely upper respiratory tract infections (ISPA) and lower respiratory tract infections (IRI / IRTI). Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria infects the airways, especially in the lower lungs. Klebsiella pneumoniae can be a Coinfection from Covid-19 or in other words SARS-Cov-2. One of the medicinal properties of natural ingredients is the Juwet plant (Syzygium cumini). The ethanol extract of Juwet leaves has a very high antimicrobial ability against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, besides that the flavonoid compounds, saponins, tannins from Juwet leaves also contain antimicrobials which function to kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms. This research was conducted to determine that the ethanol extract of juwet leaves (Syzygium cumini) can inhibit the growth of the Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria. From the research results obtained an average result with 3 times the replication of the inhibition zone of the ethanol extract of juwet leaves (Syzygium cumini), at a concentration of 100% it produced the largest inhibition zone, namely getting an average radical zone yield of 21.42 mm, and at a concentration of 90%. got an inhibition zone r 19.75 mm, a concentration of 80% got an inhibition zone of 18.33 mm, at a concentration of 70% got an inhibition zone of 17.58 mm, a concentration of 60% got an inhibition zone of 16.67 mm, at a concentration of 50% got an inhibition zone amounting to 16.00 mm, the zone formed ≥ 20 mm is considered to have very strong inhibitory activity, and if the 10-20 mm inhibition zone is said to have a strong inhibitory power, 5-10 mm is declared to have inhibitory activity whereas and if the result is ≤ 5mm is stated to have a very weak inhibition zone, so at a concentration of 100% the ethanol extract of juwet leaf (Syzygium cumini) as an herbal product in terms of antibacterial inhibition potential, which has a very strong category of inhibitory activity because the results of the inhibition zone of juwet leaf extract got an average of 21.42 mm, which is included in the very strong category.
