Abstract
Pegagan contains high levels of flavonoids and triterpenoids. The content of phytochemical compounds which have a relatively short shelf life and flavonoid compounds which have the disadvantage of being unstable to temperature and high light intensity so that their antioxidant content can be easily oxidized. Nanoemulsion is an oil disperse system with water which is stabilized from surfactant molecules in the interface layer and has a droplet size in the range of 20 - 500nm. The purpose of this study was to make a nanoemulsion formulation for pegagan to maintain and protect the compound so that it is not easily oxidized and has a long shelf life and to determine the concentration of the surfactant tween 80 which produces a good nanoemulsion formula and to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of the Tween 80 surfactant on the preparation pegagan leaf extract nanoemulsion. The nanoemulsion formulation of pegagan leaf extract was made using the spontaneous nanoemulsification method which is expected to produce preparations that meet the requirements and have a droplet size in the range of 20-500nm. Nanoemulsion was prepared with various concentrations of tween 80 (FI: 2%, FII: 4%, FIII: 8%, FIV: 10%). The tests carried out were organoleptic observations, emulsion type, pH, viscosity, and percent transmittance. Then the best formula was selected and a droplet size test was carried out to determine the particle size of the formula. The data obtained were analyzed using the One Way Anova test using SPSS 25.0 software. The results showed that the formulas differed significantly between formulas for the pH, viscosity, and percent transmittance tests. A concentration of Tween 80 content of 10% produces the best nanoemulsion formula and has met the requirements of the organoleptic test, emulsion type, pH, viscosity, transmittance percent, and droplet size. In this study, the difference in the concentration of Tween 80 also showed an effect on the pH test, viscosity, and the percent transmittance of the preparation, namely the greater the concentration of Tween 80 in the nanoemulsion preparation, the higher the results obtained in testing pH, viscosity, and percent transmittance.
