Abstract

Antioxidants are compounds that are able to overcome oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Orange peel is one of the plants that can be used as a natural antioxidant because it has fewer side effects and is safe. Orange peel is a plant that is known to contain flavonoid compounds that are one of the compounds that can potentially be antioxidants. This study was conducted to find out the comparison of antioxidant activity between variations of orange peel extract (Citrus sp.). Determination of antioxidant activity from orange peel variation extract is done through DPPH radical antidote test and expressed with Inhibitory Concetration 50 (IC50). This method, DPPH acts as a free radical soaked by antioxidant test materials measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 515 nm. The extraction of orange peel is carried out reseration using ethanol 70%. The results of antioxidant activity test showed the most powerful antioxidant activity is lime peel with IC50 value of 61,46 ppm, followed by lemon peel with IC50 value of 64,48 ppm and the last sweet orange peel with IC50 value of 71,27 ppm. Based on the results of the one way anova test obtained a sig value of 0.893 > 0.05 means there is an insignificant difference to the percent inhibition of antioxidant activity between each variation of orange peel extract.
