Abstract
Pear skin offers potential health benefits, but so far no known studies have revealed the antidiabetic properties of pear skin extract. The purpose of this study was to determine the EC50 value in the ethanol extract of pear rind (Pyrus bretschneideri) which acts as an antidiabetic activity. In vitro testing of this antidiabetic activity used the Nelson-Somogyi method. The results of this study indicate that the ethanol extract of pear rind (Pyrus bretschneideri) contains high levels of flavonoids, which are believed to be able to reduce glucose levels in the blood so that it can be developed as an antidiabetic drug. The results of the antidiabetic activity test showed that a 50% reduction in glucose levels occurred in the treatment of 13.7760 ppm of ethanol extract of pear rind (Pyrus bretschneideri). The results of the correlation showed that there was a relationship or correlation between the percent inhibition and the concentration (ppm) in the ethanol extract of pear skin (Pyrus bretschneideri).
