Abstract
Cigarette smoke inhaled by passive smokers contains five times more carbon monoxide and four times more tar and nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive substance that can cause dependence. Nicotine affects the balance of chemicals in the brain, specifically dopamine and norepinephrine, the brain chemicals that control feelings of happiness and relaxation. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence or absence of nicotine in the urine of passive smokers in Dusun Jetis Desa Bakungan Kabupaten Klaten. Nicotine examination was carried out qualitatively using test strips. The sample used is urine with the mid stream method obtained by quota sampling technique. The results are presented directly without going through the data processing process where the type of research is descriptive research. Urine samples were obtained from male respondents who smoked passively in Dusun Jetis Desa Bakungan Kabupaten Klaten. The nicotine test showed a negative result, indicated by the formation of a red line in column C (Control) and column T (Test). All 10 urine samples examined in passive smoking men in Dusun Jetis, Desa Bakungan, Kabupaten Klaten showed negative qualitative test results. These results indicate that there is no nicotine in the urine samples examined.
