Abstract
Coffee contains more than a thousand molecules of substances, included phenolic compounds, vitamins, minerals, and alkaloids. Caffeine, cafestol, kahweol, and chlorogenic acid are associated with lipid metabolism and could theoretically affect serum lipid profiles. Coffee can increased blood cholesterol levels, serum homocysteine, increased heart rate and blood pressure, which can be an important risk factor for increased coronary heart disease. The purpose of this research was to determine the description of cholesterol levels in students who drink coffee. This research is descriptive observational with a cross sectional approach. Sample in this research amounted to 32 respondent and using simple random sampling technique where one and other respondents in population had the same opportunity to be sampled. Research data would be presented descriptively in tabular form. Categorical data is presented in form of numbers and percentages. Continuous data is presented in form of sum, mean, median, standard deviation, minimum value, maximum value. This research it was found that total cholesterol levels were more than normal by 1 respondent (3.1%) and within normal limits as many as 31 respondents (96.9%). The frequency of coffee consumption 3-4 times a day which had a total cholesterol level of more than normal as 1 respondent (3,1%). The volume of coffee consumption 3-4 cups (200ml) of coffee a day which had a total cholesterol level more than normal as 1 respondent (3,1%). The duration of coffee consumption more than 5 years had a total cholesterol level more than normal as 1 respondent (3,1%).
