Abstract
Plants that have benefits for diarrhea are manila sapodilla plants (Manilkara zapota L). Sapodilla plants contain flavonoids, saponins and tannins. Saponins are abundant in flowers and seeds of sapodilla plants, while tannins and flavonoids are abundant in young fruit, bark and leaves. Extended Spectrum - Lactamases (ESBL) are plasmid enzymes that can hydrolyze and inactivate several beta-lactam antibiotics, such as third generation cephalosporins, penicillins and aztreonam. brown manila (Manilkara zapota L) in inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli producing Extended Spectrum B-Lactamase (ESBL) which provides a radical zone at the highest concentration. This research uses analytic method by doing experimental using qualitative method and disk diffusion method. Extract concentrations of 70% and 96% of sapodilla manila leaves used were 100,000 ppm, 200,000 ppm, 300,000 ppm, 400,000 ppm and 500,000 ppm with 4 repetitions at each concentration. The results showed that sapodilla leaf extract had not been able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli ESBL bacteria in 70% ethanol extract and 96% ethanol extract was able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli ESBL bacteria at a concentration of 500,000 ppm. This is probably due to the denatured phytochemical compounds, namely flavonoids and saponins.
