Abstract
An increased of vehicles cause air pollution is caused by motorycle that produce carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide that enters the body through the respiratory tract will bind to hemoglobin and form carboxyhemoglobin. The purpose of this study is to describe a relationship between the old of time driving in a day on carboxyhemoglobin levels of final year students level of the National Health Sciences College who ride a motorcycle for less than 1 hour, 1 to 3 hours, and more than 3 hours in a day. The study method is the analytic observational with quota sampling technique. The research was carried out at the National Health Sciences College Chemical Laboratory by measuring carboxyhemoglobin levels using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, the Hindsberg-lang method. The results of the measuring carboxyhemoglobin from 15 respondents were, 6,05%; 6,09%; 6,08%; 6,07%; 5,97%; 6,07%; 6,06%; 6,09%; 6,09%; 6,05%; 6,11%; 6,07%, and 6,09%. Overall data exceeds the threshold value that has been set by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienist, which is 3,5%. Based on the Pearson product moment correlation test, it can be concluded that there is no relationship between the length of time driving in a day with carboxyhemoglobin of final year students level of the National Health Sciences College.
