Abstract

Background and Purpose Research : Menstruation is a physiological process of releasing the endometrium, contains many blood vessels and occurs once a month. Menstruation women will lose blood 60 ml or more which will reduce iron level, cause iron deficiency anemia. Students pay less attention to diet due to the density of activities at campus cause students to pay less attention to diet, consume less protein and vitamins, while eating patterns, consum protein and vitamins can be use to form hemoglobin along with iron other compounds. National STIKES students d’not eat well and not pay attention to protein and vitamin intake as iron need. With this, the purpose of this research was to determine the morphology of erythrocytes in female students while menstruation. Methods Research : This type of research is descriptive. This research was conducted at the National STIKES Hematology Laboratory. With research subjects 34 students of class 3A3 years 2018 DIII Medical Laboratory Technology Study Program who have sign informed consent. The sampling technique use is Total Sampling. Before examining the morphology of erythrocytes, taking venous blood samples, morphology of erythrocytes was examine using a peripheral blood smear. Frequency Distribution Table of Respondents Based on Characteristics is use to process the data. Results Research : 2 respondent was Hypochromic and 10 respondents Normochromic. Judge from the size of the erythrocytes, all respondents have microcytic-normocytic-Macrocytic sizes. Conclusion : The morphology of erythrocytes in female students while menstruation found abnormal erythrocytes in terms of size, that is microcytic, normocytic, macrocytic (anisocytosis) and in terms of color, that is hypochromic and normochromic
