Abstract
Media is a substance with nutrients needed for the growth and reproduction of fungi. Rice bran has carbon and nitrogen sources with various nutritional content such as protein, fat, carbohydrates, and is rich in B vitamins. The large amount of nutrient content in rice bran can be an alternative medium for the growth of Candida albicans fungus. Candida albicans is a commensal fungus that can cause candidiasis. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was an effect of the effectiveness of variations in concentration and to determine the most effective concentration of using white rice bran (Ricebran) as an alternative medium for the growth of the fungus Candida albicans. This research is an experimental research, with a posttest only control group design research method. The subject of this study was bran as an alternative medium with the object of research namely the growth of Candida albicans fungal colonies at various concentrations of bran as an alternative medium. Samples were taken using the Random Sampling technique, namely random sampling which was then smoothed to produce 24 alternative media petri with variations in concentration, namely 15%, 20%, 25%. The results of the ANOVA statistical test showed significant differences in the four media groups, namely PDA media, 15% bran, 20% bran and 25% bran. In the effectiveness test of bran media, the 15% concentration had a percentage of 127.25%, the 20% concentration had a percentage of 146.93%, and the 25% concentration had a percentage of 157.49%. The three variations in the concentration of alternative media for white rice bran are known to have a percentage of 100%, so they are included in the very effective criteria. White rice bran media can be used as an alternative medium for Candida albicans growth, it can be seen from the growth of fertile Candida albicans fungal colonies resembling PDA media, the higher the concentration of white rice bran media, the greater the number of Candida albicans fungal colonies that grow on the media.
