Abstract

Geographically, Indonesia is a tropical country with high humidity levels. Hygiene and environmental sanitation factors are important factors in the transmission of the disease. Intestinal parasite disease caused by soil-transmitted helminths and protozoa. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence or absence of intestinal parasite infections caused by STH eggs (Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura and hookworms) and protozoa in this case Blastocystis hominis cysts in residents around Trini TPS, Sinduadi Village, Mlati District, Sleman Regency. This research is an analytic observational study with a cross sectional design conducted from October 2021 to June 2022. The population is all residents of RT5 RW3 Sinduadi Village, Mlati District, Sleman Regency with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The total sample is 30 correspondents with questionnaire research instruments and routine stool examinations. Then a bivariate analysis was carried out using a Chi-Square statistical test with a 95% CI degree of confidence and a significance level of 5% (a: 0.05). The statistical application program was SPSS ver.22 for windows. The prevalence of intestinal parasite infections in this study was 19(63.3%) where infection with Ascaris lumbricoides eggs 2(10.5%), mixed infection with Ascaris lumbricoides and Blastocystis hominis cyst 3(15.8%) and infection of Blastocystis hominis cyst 14(73.7%). of 30 correspondents who had good hygiene 11 (36.7%) correspondents and 19(63.3%) correspondents who had poor hygiene. Meanwhile, of the 19 correspondents who had poor hygiene, 17(89.9%) were positive for intestinal parasite infections (STH eggs and Blastocystis hominis cysts) and 2(18.2%) were negative for intestinal parasite infections. From the results of the Chi-Square (X2) test, p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). There is a significant relationship between personal hygiene and the incidence of intestinal parasite infections. because in poor hygiene there are intestinal parasites of eggs Ascaris lumbricoides and Blastocystis hominis cysts.
