Abstract
Fungi are eukaryotic organisms with cell walls made of chitin and do not have chlorophyll so that in obtaining their food (nutrients) fungi are parasites or as saprophytes and can cause disease if conditions allow to infect humans. Pityriasis versicolor occurs due to the activation of Malassezia furfur in the patient's own body (autothocus flora). Pathogenic conditions occur when there is a change in the balance of the relationship between the host and yeast as the normal flora of the skin. Under certain conditions Malassezia furfur will develop into a mycelial form, and is more pathogenic. The purpose of this study was to identify the fungus Malassezia furfur in nickel miners in Buli Village, East Halmahera Regency, North Maluku. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the Malassezia furfur fungus was not found in nickel mining workers in Buli Village, East Halmahera Regency, North Maluku. This is possible because of good personal hygiene carried out by the miners as well as periodic counseling conducted by company doctors regarding occupational health and safety.
