Abstract

Thalassemia is a disease characterized by the breakdown of red blood cells so that the life of red blood cells becomes shorter than normal erythrocytes thalassemia sufferers need regular blood transfusions throughout their lives which results in a buildup of excess iron so as to cause damage to organs, one of which is the liver. Iron in the body binds to ferritin and is stored in the liver. Ferritin exemination is needed to excess or storage of iron in the body, while SGOT and SGPT are needed to describe liver cell damage due to iron accumulation. This study is an analytical observasioal study using a cross sectional approach which was carried out in January- April 2022 at Dr Tjitrowadojo Hospital, Purworejo. The research subjects were 22 Thalassemia Major children who met inclusion criteria for feritin examination, SGOT and SGPT. The results showed that 11 children (50%), were male and 11 children (50%) were female with mean 3356.50 (1489 29767)ng/mL, SGOT levels with a mean of 38.00 ( 18- 149) u/L, and SGPT levels with mean of 24.00 (8- 81) u/L. The relationship between Feritin and SGPT levels with a sig. value 0.766 (>0.05) and the relationship between Feritin an SGPT levels with a sig value 0.776 (>0.05). The results of this study , there was no relationship between Feritin levels with SGOT and SGPT levels in Thalassemia major children
