Abstract

Energy drinks are drinks that can increase energy, contain caffeine and taurine which can have side effects on the kidneys. Honey contains phenolic compounds and vitamins that can have a good effect on health. This study aims to determine the nephroprotective effect of rambutan honey with graded doses on the kidneys of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) after energy drink induction. This study used an experimental type of research, using 5 treatment groups including 1 negative group, 1 positive group, and 3 treatment groups with energy drinks and honey. Kidney tissue was observed macroscopically in the form of color, texture and size, while microscopically it was done by assessing the presence of degeneration and necrosis. The results of macroscopic observations showed that there was no difference between the control group and the treatment group of energy drinks and honey, namely the kidney organs were brownish red in color with a chewy texture with a size of 1.5 x 1 x 0,5 cm. The results of microscopic observations were known in the positive control and treatment showed cell damage in the form of degeneration and necrosis. The significant value of the ANOVA test was 0.020 (≥ 0.05) so it can be seen that the administration of honey can affect the kidney histopathological picture of White Rats (Rattus norvegicus) after energy drink induction.
