Abstract

The distance between the septic tank and the well that is less than 10 meters can cause the well water to be polluted by Escherichia coli bacteria. The content of Escherichia coli in dug well water indicates that the water has been contaminated by animal waste or human feces. The presence of Escherichia coli bacteria in dug well water can cause cases of diarrheal disease in the community. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the distance of the septic tank and the amount of Escherichia coli bacteria in dug wells in Kedungombo Village, Baturetno District. This research is an observational analytic study with a cross- sectional approach with a sample of 20 dug wells. Measuring the distance between the septic tank and the source of clean water using meters. The unit used to measure the content of Escherichia coli bacteria is CFU/100 ml with the membrane filter method. Based on the results of the study, it was obtained statistical test results with a p value of = 0.065 > 0.05 so it can be concluded that the distance of the septic tank is not related to the amount of Escherichia coli bacteria in dug wells in Kedungombo Village Baturetno District.
