Abstract
Clove (Syzigium aromaticum) is one of the natural ingredients that is used as an essential oil. Clove oil contains a large amount of eugenol in the composition (70%-80%). The eugenol compound contained in clove oil can be used as an alcohol solvent and is used to purify tissue preparations. The advantages of using clove oil are the fast cleaning process, low price, smells like aromatherapy. Xylol is a clearing solution that is often used in histology laboratories. Xylol is a colorless, flammable, volatile, sweet-smelling liquid. Xylol is an irritant and dissolves fat causing dry, cracked, blemished or dermatitis skin. The purpose of this study was to compare the results on macroscopic and microscopic images between the treatment of clove oil and xylol clearing processes in kidney tissue preparations. This research is experimental, divided into two groups. Each group consisted of 8 preparations of white rat tissue. Kidney organs were observed macroscopically and microscopically. Macroscopically it can be seen that the transparency, texture, and ease of tissue cut between xylol and clove oil are good with a score of 1. Microscopically it can be seen that the clarity, color of the preparation, and tissue integrity are good with a score of 1. P value> 0.05 or it can be said that there was no difference between the xylol and clove oil groups.
