Abstract

Anemia due to iron (Fe) deficiency is a major nutritional problem in Asia, including Indonesia. The prevalence rate of anemia in Indonesia in 2018, in Central Java province was 5.0%. Based on the 2013 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) data, there were 21.7% of the population with hemoglobin levels less than the normal limit, namely 18.4% men and 23.9% women. Klanceng honey (Trigona sp) is honey produced by clanceng bees (Trigona sp). Klanceng honey contains iron which functions as the formation of hemoglobin and vitamin C helps the process of iron absorption. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving honey clanceng (Trigona sp) on hemoglobin levels in Rattus norvegicus white rats. This type of research is a quasi-experimental pree-post test study with control and experimental groups, there are 4 groups, namely the control group, the treatment group 0.27 ml honey/200 g body weight, 0.54 ml honey/200 g body weight, and 0.81 ml of honey/200 g BW with six rats in each treatment group. Before the treatment, the hemoglobin level was measured, then the treatment was carried out for 21 days and then the hemoglobin level was measured after the treatment. Measurement of hemoglobin levels was carried out using the Abacus 3CT Hematology Analyzer. Normal distributed research data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and continued with the Paired Sample T Test with a value of sig <0.05 in the treatment group at doses of 0.54 ml and 0.81 ml.
