Abstract

Joint pain is a health problem that often occurs in the elderly. Self medication is a person's attempt to self-medicate by recognizing the symptoms or illnesses they feel and choosing their own medicine. Inappropriate self-medication behavior can cause various health problems if done incorrectly, wrong diagnosis of disease, delay in seeking the necessary treatment so that the disease can become more severe, wrong route of administration, and wrong dose. The purpose of this study was to determine an overview of the level of knowledge about self medication for joint pain in the elderly posyandu community in RW XI Pucangsawit. This type of research is descriptive research. This research was conducted at the Elderly Posyandu RW XI Pucangsawit in February – March 2022. The sample of the research was the community in the Elderly Posyandu RW XI Pucangsawit as many as 110 people. The sampling technique chosen was saturated sampling, namely taking the whole sample. The results showed that 83 people (76%) had good knowledge, 6 people (5%) respondents had sufficient knowledge and 21 people (19%) respondents had less knowledge about joint pain self-medication. Good community behavior is determined by the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, traditions and so on of the person or community concerned. Suggestions that health services and professional organizations provide more socialization about self-medication.
