Abstract
SARS Cov 2 binds to angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) 2. This leads to down-regulation of ACE 2 that develops to hypokalemia. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) leads to hypokalemia. Hypokalemia worsen patients’s medical conditions. This study was to determine kalium levels in Covid 19 patients with type 2 DM as comorbid at Dr. Oen Solo Baru Hospital. This is descriptive research with quota sampling technique. Serum kalium levels was measured using gem premiere 3500 with ion selective electrode methode. The independent variables are : Covid 19 patients, type 2 DM, age and the gender of patients. Blood potassium levels as dependent variable. The results showed that out off 30 patient, 86,67 % had hypokalemia with average kalium level at 2,82 mEq/L, 10 % had normal kalium levels with average at 4,23 mEq/L and 3,33 % had hyperkalemia with average kalium level at 5,40 mEq/L. 88,24 % of 17 male patients had hypokalemia with average kalium level at 2,85 mEq/L, 5,88 % of male patients had normal blood kalium levels with average at 4,30 mEq/L, and 5,88 % of male patients had hyperkalemia with average kalium level at 5,40 mEq/L. 84,62 % of 13 female patients had hypokalemia with average kalium level at 2,77 mEq/L, 15,38 % of female patients had normal blood kalium levels with average at 4,20 mEq/L.
