Abstract
Cats are one of pets that are often infected by parasites, both endoparasites (helminthiasis) and ectoparasites (fleas, ticks, fleas and mites). The most reported endoparasites are Soil Transmitted Helminths infection, namely Toxocara cati, Trichuris trichiura and Hook worm. Meanwhile, ectoparasites, especially fleas that are often encountered are Ctenocephalides felis. Parasites in cats have the potential to transmit the disease to a human (zoonosis). The presence of fleas in cats can be influenced by the way the cat is groomed. The aim of this research is to identify Soil Transmitted Helminths and fleas infection in pet cats in Garon Village Selogiri Distric. Interviews were conducted with cat owners to obtain information on how to groom cats, then data were analyzed descriptively. With quota sampling as many as 20 pet cats, then samples of feces and fleas were taken. The method used to detect the presence of worm eggs is flotation with NaCl 33%. Flea examination is performed by identifying ectoparasite in wet preparations. The results of the floating feces examination showed worm eggs of Toxocara cati and Hook worm. Ectoparasites obtained after laboratory examination are fleas of Ctenocephalides felis. The incidence of Soil Transmitted Helminths infection is 20% and fleas infestation is 25%
