Abstract

Hematocrit examination is one of the test that can be used to detect the degree of anemia and polycythemia, but it is also used as a parameter to assess the decrease in erythrocyte mass. Hematocrit examination using venous bloods samples with anticoagulants needs to pay attention to the storage time limit. Storage of EDTA blood at room temperature for too long can cause morphological changes in erythrocyte such rupture of the erythrocyte membrane (hemolisis). The research method used is observational analytic with a cross sectional approach. This research was conducted at the STIKES Nasional Hematology Laboratory. The sample of this research is 20 students of class 3A3 Study Program D-III Medical Laboratory Technology of STIKES Nasional. The result showed that the hematocrit value that was delayed 0 hours had a maximum value of 46% and a minimum value of 34%. While the group that was delayed 3 hours had a maximum 46% and a minimum value of 37%. Statistical test with Paired t-test obtained p value = 0,044 < 0,05 then H0 is rejected, it can be concluded that there is a difference in the hematokrit value in venous blood sample with a delay of 0 hours and 3 hours.
