Abstract

Washing hands with soap is one of the sanitation measures by cleaning hands and fingers using water and soap by humans to be clean and break the chain of germs. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of washing hands with soap on the number of bacteria. The type of research used in this scientific paper is descriptive research. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of the National College of Health Sciences. The sampling technique used is quota sampling. The palm swab was carried out before and after washing hands in Kanisius Santa Maria Kartasura Sukoharjo Kindergarten children. The palm swab sample was diluted and the number of bacteria calculated using the pour plate method. The results showed that the average number of bacteria before and after washing hands was 1.3 x 103 CFU and 4.5 x 101 CFU. The conclusion is that there is a difference in the number of bacteria between before and after washing hands with soap.
