Abstract
Background and purpose: Health problems will continue to increase because of the aging process that causes many changes such as the psychological, social, and functional decline in the body. An organ or system will lose its function from 1% per year, starting from the age of 40 years and progressively with age. One of the disturbed homeostasis is the blood glucose level regulation system. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of fasting blood glucose levels at the age of 40-60 years. Method: This type of research was descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique was total sampling with the research subjects being residents of Karanglo Village, RT 03 RW 04, Waru, Baki, Sukoharjo, aged 40-60 years. The method of examination was enzymatic photometric (GOD-PAP). Results: After researching 37 respondents, the average value was 115 mg/dl with the lowest value being 72 mg/dl and the highest value is 347 mg/dl. The average value of fasting blood glucose levels increased in respondents with a history of Diabetes Mellitus, male gender, history of hypertension, obesity, moderate intensity of physical activity, alcohol consumption, smoking, consumption of corticosteroid drugs, and carbohydrate consumption with a frequency of more than 21 times per week. Conclusion: In a study conducted on 37 respondents, the average fasting blood glucose level was 115 mg/dl where this value was in the normal range.
