Abstract
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas that comes from incomplete combustion of carbon-based materials and can cause poisoning. Inhaled CO gas can bind to hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin (COHb). High levels of carboxyhemoglobin in the blood cause the oxygen supply to the tissues to be disrupted. The level of CO poisoning is known by measuring the percentage of CO in the blood. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of COHb levels in janitors at Tirtonadi Terminal. This research is a descriptive research. The sampling technique used is quota sampling. The research respondents were 5 janitors at Terminal Tirtonadi Surakarta. COHb examination using the Conway diffusion cell method using a UV Vis spectrophotometer. The results of COHb examination ranged from 0.25% - 0.41%. Absorbance was read at a wavelength of 404 nm and operating time at 60 minutes. The study concluded that the COHb levels of the janitors at the Tirtonadi Terminal were normal or did not exceed the threshold value set by ACGIH, namely 3.5%.
