Abstract

Urine is the residual fluid excreted by the kidneys which will then be excreted from the body through the urinalysis process. Urine examination is carried out no later than 2 hours after urinating. Examination of urine more than 2 hours can reduce the quality of the test results, especially the number of erythrocyte cells in the urine. This is because the urine pH becomes alkaline, so the erythrocyte cells are easily destroyed, and can affect the diagnosis of the test. This study aims to determine the effect of delay on the number of erythrocytes in urine sediment. This study used a literature study method with data sources derived from secondary data from research reports or scientific publication journals containing data on the effect of delay on the number of erythrocytes in urine sediment and its influencing factors. Descriptive data analysis was carried out by arranging the data sequence and organizing it into a pattern from each data source used. The results of the two studies conducted by Haryanto et al (2015) showed that there was a delay effect on the number of erythrocytes in the urine sediment (p <0.05) with a delay of 2 hours, 3 hours and 4 hours. According to research by Kamil, et al (2016) there is a delay effect on the number of erythrocytes in urine sediment with a delay of 2 hours and 4 hours. Meanwhile, research by Naid et al. (2014) states that there is no significant effect on examining erythrocyte urine sediment (p> 0.05) with a delay of 2 hours and 3 hours. Based on the results of the data analysis, it can be concluded that there is a delay effect on the number of erythrocytes in the urine sediment.
