Abstract
Indonesia is a tropical country which is famous for its diversity of plants that can be used as medicine. Parts of plants that can be used as medicine are leaves, stems, fruits, flowers and roots. Plants that can be used as medicinal ingredients are cherry leaves (Muntingia calabura L.) which are thought to have anti-inflammatory effects. Cream preparations were chosen because they are easy to apply because of their semi-solid shape, able to stick to the surface where they are used for a long time, not sticky. This study aims to produce an optimum formula for the cream of ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of cherry leaves with a composition of PEG 4000 and propylene glycol. Cherry leaf ethanol extract was obtained by maceration which was then partitioned with n-hexane and ethyl acetate to obtain ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of cherry leaves. The cream is made in four formulas based on the factorial design method. The resulting cream was tested for its physical properties including spreadability, adhesion and viscosity. The data obtained from testing physical properties were analyzed using Design Expert 7.0.0 Trial. The physical properties test data for the optimum formula cream were analyzed statistically using the One Simple t-Test with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that the optimum formula for the ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of cherry leaves was obtained in the composition of PEG 4000 6.00 g and propylene glycol 3.77 g. The response to the physical properties of the optimum formula from the results of the predicted value and the experimental value showed no significant difference.
