Abstract
The buildup of copper (II) ions in the liver can cause liver cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is a chronic disease of the liver, which is caused by damage to the liver. Lime contains citric acid which is a metal binding agent (Chelating agent). This research was conducted to determine the lime juice (Citrus aurantifolia) can potentially reduce levels of copper (II) ions and the maximum concentration of lime juice (Citrus aurantifolia) which can reduce the highest levels of copper (II) ions. Lime juice is made in five series of concentrations, namely 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. Copper (II) ions of 20 ppm were treated with the addition of a lime juice concentration series. The solution was separated using chloroform. The remaining water phases containing copper (II) ions were analyzed using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) at a wavelength of 324.7 nm. The results showed that lime juice can reduce levels of copper (II) ions. In lime juice concentration of 60% can reduce the levels of copper (II) ions most with a decrease of 3.9434 ppm (18.0623%).
